Solution

$F = - (\frac{dU}{dx})$
In the region BC, slope of the graph is positive.
$∴$ F = negative, i.e., force is attractive in nature.
In the region AB, slope of the graph is negative.
$∴$ F = positive, i.e., force is repulsive in nature.
