$\begin{array}{l} P = \frac{V^{2}}{R} \\ ∴ P_{1} = \frac{V^{2}}{R_{1}} and P_{2} = \frac{V^{2}}{R_{1} + R_{2}} \\ P_{2} < P_{1} \end{array}$
Hence power dissipated by ,R₁ will decrease.
