Question

A steel ball is floating in a trough of mercury. If we fill the empty part of the trough with water, what will happen to the steel ball?

Easy
Solution

Now, the weight of steel ball is balanced due to up thrusts provided by both the mercury and water. Hence, the ball will move up due to upthrust provided by water displaced. The steel ball will continue to float above the mercury and will be covered by water.
