A tap supplies water at 10°C and another tap at 100°C. How much hot water must be taken so that we get 20 kg water at 35°C?

Solution

$\begin{array}{l} m (100 - 35) \times 1 = (20 - m) (35 - 10) \times 1 \\ or 65 m = 500 - 25 m \\ or 90 m = 500 \\ ∴ m = \frac{500}{90} \approx 5 .6 kg . \end{array}$
