For a two particle system
$\large \vec a_c = \frac{m_1 \vec a_1+m_2\vec a_2}{(m_1+m_2)}$
In the given problem , m₁ = m₂ = m
$\large and \;\vec a_1=\vec a_2=\vec g\\\\\therefore \; \vec a_c=\frac{m \vec g+m\vec g}{m+m}=\vec g$
