Two blocks of masses I kg and 2 kg are connected by a metal wire going over a smooth pulley as shown in the figure. The breaking stress of the metal is 403π×106 N/m2.If g=10ms2, then what should be the minimum radius of the wire used if it is not to break?

T=2m1m2m1+m2g=2×1×21+2×10N=403N

If r is the minimum radius, then

 Breaking stress =403πr2 or 403π×106=403πr2

 or r2=1106 or r=1103m=1mm
