Work done by Diff type of forces

Two cylindrical vessels of equal cross sectional area contain water up to heights h1>h2   and h2 . The vessels are inter connected so that the levels in them become equal. Calculate the work done by the force of gravity during this process if  ρ is the density of water.


Since volume is constant
Height in each vessel after inter connection is  h1+h22
Mass of water in vessel in which liquid falls  =ρAh1-h1+h22=ρAh1-h22
Height descended by this water =  h1-h22
Work done  =ρAh1-h222g
