Question

Two forces $F_{1}$ = 1 N and $F_{2}$ = 2 N act along the lines x = 0 and y = 0 respectively. Then the resultant of forces would be

Solution

x = 0 means y-axis $\Rightarrow$ $\vec{F_{1}} = \hat{j}$
y = 0 means x-axis $\Rightarrow$ $\vec{F_{2}} = 2 \hat{i}$
so resultant $\vec{F} = \vec{F_{1}} + \vec{F_{2}} = 2 \hat{i} + \hat{j}$
