Question

Two identical cylinders at same temperature contain Helium at 2.5 atm and Argon at 1 atm respectively. What will be the pressure if both the gases are filled in one of the cylinders ?

Easy
Solution

Total number of moles remains conserved.

Temperature of the gas remains unchanged.

n = n1 + n2

\large \Rightarrow \,\frac{{PV}}{{RT}}\, = \,\frac{{{P_1}V}}{{RT}} + \frac{{{P_2}V}}{{RT}}

\large \Rightarrow \,P\, = \,{P_1} + {P_2}\, = \,\left( {2.5 + 1} \right)atm

\large \Rightarrow \,P\, = \,3.5\,atm
