Ohm's law

Question

Two metallic wires made of different material, having resistivity $ρ$ and 2 $ρ$ are connected in series combination as shown in the figure. The wires have same cross sectional area. When an electric current passes through the composite wire, intensities of electric fields in wire 1 and 2 are E₁ and E₂ respectively.

Solution

$\frac{E}{J} = resistivity$ for same cross sectional area, current density (J) is same in both wires.
$∴ E \propto resistivity and \frac{E_{1}}{E_{2}} = \frac{ρ}{2 ρ} = \frac{1}{2} .$
