Solution

Let the resistance of broken wire be R₁The other resistance is 2 $Ω$ . The resistance of parallel combination is 6/5.
$\begin{array}{l} \frac{1}{R} = \frac{1}{R_{1}} + \frac{1}{R_{2}} \\ \frac{5}{6} = \frac{1}{R_{1}} + \frac{1}{2} or \frac{5}{6} - \frac{1}{2} = \frac{1}{R_{1}} \end{array}$
or $\frac{1}{3} = \frac{1}{R_{1}} or R_{1} = 3 Ω$
