Two S.H.Ms. s1 = a sin ωt and s2 = b sin ωt are superimposed on a particle. The s1 and s2 are along the directions which make angle 37° with each other.
the particle will perform S.H.M.
the particle will not perform S.H.M.
the particle will perform periodic motion but not S.H.M.
the motion will not be oscillatory.
Resultant displacement will be the vector sum of two displacements:
S = S12+S22+2S1S2cos 37°
= a2sin2ωt+b2sin2ωt+2ab sin2ωt×45
S = a2+b2+8ab5sin ωt
Which shows that the particle will perform SHM.
