Two thin prism each of single of prism $5^{0}$ and refractive index 1.5 are combined base to base as shown in the figure. Find separation between images formed due to refraction through prisms.

Solution

$δ = (μ - 1) A = 0.5 \times \frac{5 π}{180} = \frac{π}{72} r a d i a n$
$∴ δ = \frac{h}{b} ∴ h = b δ = 50.4 \times \frac{π}{72} = \frac{50.4}{72} \times \frac{22}{7} = 2.2 c m$
The separation between images = 4.4 cm
