Electrostatic potential

Question

A uniform field of magnitude E = 2000 N/C is directed θ=37 below the horizontal. Find the potential difference between P and R VPVR (in volts).

Moderate
Solution

The potential difference between two points P and R in electric field is, VPVR=RPEdl

As electric field is constant,

VPVR=RPEdl

VPVR=ERPdl=ErPrR

VPVR=EΔl=EΔlcos180θ

Here, Δl=PR=5 cm=5×102 m

Hence, VPVR=2000×5×102cos370

=2000×5×102×45=80 V
