Current gains are given by $α = \frac{{Δi}_{C}}{{Δi}_{E}} and β = \frac{{Δi}_{C}}{{Δi}_{B}}$
where ${Δi}_{C}, {Δi}_{E}, {Δi}_{B}$ are change in collector current, emitter current and base current, respectively.
The relation between $α and β$ is
$\begin{array}{l} β = \frac{α}{1 - α} \\ Given, β = 0 .98, hence we have \\ β = \frac{0 .98}{1 - 0 .98} = 49 \end{array}$
