A vertical ray of light strikes the reflecting surface of a plane mirror which is inclined to the horizontal at an angle of 45^o as shown in figure. If the mirror rotates anticlockwise through an angle of 15^o, then the angle of deviation of the reflected ray is

Solution

The reflected ray must be horizontal as shown in figure. If the mirror rotates through 15^o, the reflected ray will rotate anticlockwise through 30^o. Therefore new angle of deviation will be $180^{o} - (90^{o} + 30^{o}) i . e . 60^{o}$ .
