Solution

Pressure head = 40 x 13.6 cm of water
$Velocity head = \frac{v^{2}}{2 g}$
$\Rightarrow 40 \times 13 .6 = \frac{v^{2}}{2 \times 1000}$
$\Rightarrow v = 1030 {cms}^{- 1} = 10 .3 {ms}^{- 1}$
