A wooden cube of length 10 cm is floating in water with 75% of its length submerged in water. Now a small disc of iron is placed on the cube and it is observed that the cube is just submerged in water. Then mass of the disc is

Solution

Before the disc is placed on the cube
${(10)}^{3} \times σ \times g = (10^{2} \times 7.5) \times 1 \times g$ where $σ$ = density of cube in gm/c.c.
$\Rightarrow σ = 0.75 g m / c . c .$
After the disc is placed, $m g + {(10)}^{3} \times 0.75 \times g = {(10)}^{3} \times 1 \times g$
$\Rightarrow m = 250 g m$
