Solution

output voltage is 110 V and output current is 250 mA so load resistance will be
$\begin{array}{rcl} R_{L} & = & \frac{110}{250 \times 10^{- 3}} = \frac{110 \times 10^{3}}{250} = 440 Ω \\ total current & = & 500 mA \\ \max . voltage across the series resistance is 180 - 110 & = & 70 V \\ series resistance is R_{s} & = & \frac{70}{500 \times 10^{- 3}} = \frac{70 \times 10^{3}}{500} = 140 Ω \end{array}$
