An excessive loss of fluid from the body can activate the osmoreceptors of the hypothalamus. This causes the synthesis of ADH by hypothalamic neurons which is transported to the neurohypophysis and then is released into the blood. ADH facilitates water reabsorption from the DCT and CD.
