Vital Capacity (VC) is the maximum volume of air a person can breathe in after a forced expiration. It can also be defined as the maximum volume of air a person can breathe out after a forced inspiration. VC = ERV + TV + IRV.

Expiratory Capacity(EC) is total volume of air a person can expire after a normal inspiration.

Inspiratory Capacity(IC) is a total volume of air a person can inspire after a normal expiration.

Total Lung Capacity(TLC) is the total volume of air accomodated in the lungs at the end of forced inspiration.
