Metagenesis is a phenomenon in which polyps produce medusae asexually and medusae form the polyps sexually. This is exhibited by cnidarians in which both polyp and medusa stages are observed. An example is Obelia (sea fur). Hydra is also a cnidarian but there is no medusa stage in its life history.
