Muscle
Question

Read the following statements in context to muscle tissue and choose the correct answer.
(i) Excessive exercise results in anaerobic respiration and forms lactic acid.
(ii) As per sliding filament theory of muscle contraction, the filament that moves to shorten a muscle is actin.
(iii) The muscles primarily involved in locomotion is striated muscles.

Moderate
Solution

Repeated activation of the muscles can lead to the accumulation of lactic acid due to anaerobic breakdown of glycogen in them, causing fatigue.

During contraction, the ‘I’ bands get reduced ; I-bands consists of thin (actin) filaments held by Z-lines.

Skeletal muscles are closely associated with the skeletal components of the body. They have a striped appearance under the microscope and hence are called striated muscles.
