Function of the Tubules
Question

Removal of proximal convoluted tubule from the nephron will result in

Moderate
Solution

Because a large amount of water is reabsorbed from the PCT, one can expect that removal of PCT would make the urine dilute because a large amount of water is not reabsorbed.

Note: Actually the osmolarity of the fluid remains constant along the PCT because reabsorption of water keeps pace with the reabsorption of solutes, the osmolarity of the fluid remains the same all along the PCT (Ref. Medical Physiology by Guyton). Even the NCERT books says that 70-80% of water and electrolytes are absorbed by the PCT. So, if PCT is removed, the quantity of urine would increase while the concentration would remain the same.
