Detailed Solution
Sperm is the male reproductive cell and consists of a head, neck, middle piece and a tail. The head of the sperm comprises the nucleus (DNA) and tip contains acrosome which enables the sperm to penetrate the egg. Neck contains centrioles which are proximal centriole and distal centriole. Distal centriole gives rise to axial filament of the sperm which runs up to the end of the tail. The middle piece contains the mitochondria which supplies the energy in the form of ATP the tail needs to move. The tail moves with whip-like movements back and forth to propel the sperm towards the egg.
