Total volume of air a person can expire after a normal inspiration is termed expiratory capacity (EC). This includes tidal volume and expiratory reserve volume (TV+ERV).
Vital Capacity is the maximum volume of air a person can breathe in after a forced expiration.
Total Lung Capacity (TLC) is the total volume of air accommodated in the lungs at the end of a forced inspiration.
Functional Residual Capacity (FRC) is the volume of air that will remain in the lungs after a normal expiration.
