As of the 2025-26 academic year, Tamil Nadu State Board (formally, State Board of School Examinations and Directorate of Government Examinations, Tamil Nadu) still provides school education (Class 1 to 12) in government and most aided/unaided schools in the state.. 

The Tamil Nadu Board of Secondary Education is an educational board in Tamil Nadu, India, which manages secondary and higher secondary education up to the pre-degree level, and conducts the SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) and HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) exams. It is formally called the State Board of School Examinations (Secondary) and Board of Higher Secondary Examinations and also offers courses in Vocational Education and training (VET) and is currently the largest school board in the world.
