Solution:
Concept- Any metal lying above hydrogen in the reactivity series displaces hydrogen from its acids. In terms of activity, the metals at the top of the series are more reactive than those at the bottom. Any metal that is located above hydrogen in the activity series will release hydrogen when it combines with diluted acid to create an acid salt.
In the electrochemical series, Zn lies above hydrogen. Thus, Zn has higher reactivity. Zn can displace hydrogen from its acids in the form of hydrogen. In this process, Zn is oxidised to a +2 oxidation state.
By forming a complex with sulphate ion with a -2 oxidation number zinc sulphate is formed as a by-product.
