Let $x_{1}, x_{2}, \dots, x_{n}$ be values of variable $X$ and let $Y$

be the variable taking values $y_{1}, y_{2}, \dots, y_{n}$ such that

$y_{i} = x_{i} - a, i = 1, 2, \dots, n .$ Then $\bar{Y} = \bar{X} - a$ and $σ_{Y} = σ_{X} .$

Now,
