detailed solution

Correct option is B

Let x1,x2,x3,,xn be n values of a variable X. It is given that X=20 and σX=2. Let yi=pxiq; i=1,2,,n. Then,

   Y¯=pX¯q and σY=|p|σX

X¯2=pX¯q and 12σX=|p|σXY¯=X¯2 and σY=12σX

|p|=12 and X¯2=pX¯q

p=±12 and X¯2=pX¯q

If p=12, then X¯2=pX¯q gives q=0, which is a contradiction.

 p=12

Substituting p=12 in X¯2=pX¯q, we obtain

  X¯=qq=20            [X¯=20]
