Solution:

Let $P Q$ and $L M$ be the two towers.

$∠ P A Q = ∠ L A M = 45 °$

$A Q = P Q$ , and $A M = L M$

$\Rightarrow$ $P Q - L M = A Q - A M$

$= 5 m$

$∴$ The required difference is $5 m$
