The CBSE English syllabus Class 1 for the session 2025-26 has both prose and poetry in a single book called Mridang. NCERT used two different books, Marigold and Raindrops, in the past, but the new curriculum integrates all of that in one single textbook named Mridang. The syllabus includes the important units such as literature, grammar, reading comprehension, and writing skills with the purpose of creating the strong base in the vocabulary, verbal expression, and communication skills.

Grammar forms the backbone of the English language. The grammar knowledge is required in all the skills such as writing, speaking and reading.
