Verdict: JEE Main April 2 Shift 1 is broadly similar in difficulty to January 21 and January 22 shifts of Session 1. It is significantly easier than January 23 Shift 2, which was the toughest shift of Session 1. Students who found Session 1 manageable should find today's paper familiar.
JEE Main 2026 marks vs percentile table is updated below based on today's paper difficulty and Session 1 normalization trends.
| Estimated Marks | Expected Percentile | JEE Advanced Eligibility | College Options |
| 250 – 300 | 99.5 – 100 percentile | IITs via JEE Advanced | Top NIT CSE and ECE |
| 210 – 249 | 99 – 99.5 percentile | JEE Advanced qualified | Top NITs — CSE and ECE |
| 180 – 209 | 97 – 99 percentile | JEE Advanced qualified | Good NITs and IIITs |
| 150 – 179 | 94 – 97 percentile | Borderline — General | NITs — other branches |
| 120 – 149 | 89 – 94 percentile | Borderline — General | IIITs and GFTIs |
| 100 – 119 | 82 – 89 percentile | Unlikely to qualify | Private colleges |

Note on normalization: Since today's paper is moderate in difficulty, raw score requirements for each percentile band are slightly higher compared to tougher shifts. In a moderate shift, a candidate needs approximately 150 to 160 marks to reach 95 percentile. NTA normalization ensures fairness across all shifts — raw scores are not compared directly across shifts.
| Category | Expected Cutoff Percentile | Expected Marks (Approx.) |
| General — CRL | 89 – 91 percentile | 105 – 115 marks |
| OBC-NCL | 74 – 79 percentile | 80 – 90 marks |
