The National Institute of Technology (NIT), one of India's top technological institutions, has drawn students from a range of undergraduate and graduate subjects due to its stellar placement outcomes for B.Tech and M.Tech graduates.
NIT reports that during its placement drive, the university achieved a perfect placement score of 100% for both its undergraduate and graduate programs. For the benefit of all the interested students, NITs' official placement statistics are basically published on each institution's website.
The prestigious placement sessions for the final year students at the major NITs in India begin in August and September. The placement of the drive typically starts for students from the previous year and lasts through February each year.
Top domestic and international companies like Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Credence, QuadEye Security, Lowe's, Wissen, Nokia, Ashok Leyland, Incture, PharmEasy, Cartesian Consulting, IBM, Cisco, ATCS, Toshiba, Amazon, Arcesium, SAP, Qualcomm, Oracle, AppDynamics, etc. visited the NIT campuses to hire engineering graduates for a range of positions.

There are 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) across India. All are centrally funded and recognized as Institutes of National Importance under the NITSER Act, 2007.
National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are premier public engineering institutions funded by the Government of India. They offer undergraduate (B.Tech), postgraduate (M.Tech, MBA, MSc), and doctoral (PhD) programs.
Some of the most reputed NITs based on rankings, placements, and academic reputation include:
NIT Tiruchirappalli (Trichy)
NIT Surathkal
NIT Warangal
NIT Rourkela
NIT Calicut
Admission to B.Tech programs in NITs is done through:
JEE Main examination
JoSAA counselling process
For M.Tech admissions, candidates must qualify through GATE.
Yes, in most cases. NITs are centrally funded, have better infrastructure, stronger placement records, national-level exposure, and standardized academic frameworks compared to many state colleges.
IITs generally have higher cut-offs and global rankings.
NITs are also prestigious but slightly below IITs in competition level.
Both are Institutes of National Importance.
Admissions: IITs → JEE Advanced; NITs → JEE Main.
Almost every state/UT has at least one NIT. Some states established newer NITs after 2010 to improve regional technical education access.
Major programs include:
B.Tech (CSE, ECE, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, etc.)
M.Tech
MBA
MSc
PhD programs
For Computer Science Engineering (General category, All India quota):
Top NITs: Closing ranks often fall under 3,000.
Mid-tier NITs: Around 5,000–15,000.
Newer NITs: Can extend beyond 30,000+.
Yes. NITs are recognized institutions under the Government of India and their degrees are valid for higher education and employment worldwide.
