Gendathur is a village in a remote area of Mysore, Karnataka, where villagers installed a system for rainwater harvesting in more than 200 villages at once, making it a unique recognition in the whole country. This village receives 1000 mm of rainwater annually, and due to this, all houses in this village harvest about 100000 litres of water annually. All the 200 houses have an efficiency of collecting 80% of rainwater from which 50000 litres of water can be used by each house annually. The people of this village have adopted rooftop rainwater harvesting to fulfil their water needs.
