Detailed Solution

For NEET 2025 counseling, there are two main types of marks required:

1. NEET Qualifying Cut-off Marks (Eligibility for Counseling):

These are the minimum marks you need to score to be eligible to participate in the NEET counseling process at all. If you score below these marks, you cannot even register for counseling, regardless of your rank. The National Testing Agency (NTA) releases these marks along with the NEET results.

For NEET UG 2025, the qualifying cut-off marks and percentiles are as follows:

  • General (UR)/EWS: 50th Percentile, corresponding to a score range of 686 - 144
  • OBC/SC/ST: 40th Percentile, corresponding to a score range of 143 - 113
  • General-PwD: 45th Percentile, corresponding to a score range of 143 - 127
  • OBC/SC/ST-PwD: 40th Percentile, corresponding to a score range of 126 - 113

2. Admission Cut-off Marks (Marks Required to Get a Seat):

These are the much higher marks required to actually secure a seat in an MBBS or BDS college. Simply clearing the qualifying cut-off is rarely enough to get into a medical college, especially a government one. These marks are determined by the demand for seats, the number of seats available, and the performance of all qualified candidates.

For government MBBS colleges, especially popular ones like AIIMS or top state colleges, the admission cut-off marks are significantly higher:

  • General Category: To get a government MBBS seat, a score of 600-650+ marks is often considered a good target, with top AIIMS and MAMC requiring 680-710+ marks.
  • OBC Category: Typically needs scores in the range of 580-620+ for government colleges.
  • SC/ST Category: Usually requires scores in the range of 450-550+ for government colleges.

These admission cut-off marks will vary based on:

  • The specific college you are aiming for.
  • Whether it's an All India Quota (AIQ) or State Quota seat.
  • Your reservation category.
  • The overall difficulty of the NEET exam and the performance of all candidates in that particular year.
