NEET Counselling Criteria

NEET counselling is the process through which eligible candidates are allotted seats in medical and dental colleges across India based on their NEET scores. The criteria for participating in NEET counselling are as follows:

1. Qualification in NEET Exam

  • Candidates must have qualified the NEET UG exam for the relevant year. This means securing at least the minimum required percentile in the exam:
    • General Category: 50th percentile
    • SC/ST/OBC: 40th percentile
    • PwD (General): 45th percentile.

2. Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects from a recognized board.
  • Minimum aggregate marks in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology):
    • General Category: 50%
    • OBC/SC/ST: 40%
    • PwD: 40%.

3. Age Limit

  • Minimum age: 17 years as of December 31 of the year of admission.
  • There is no upper age limit for NEET counselling.

4. Nationality

  • Indian citizens, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and foreign nationals are eligible to participate in NEET counselling for various seat categories.

5. Seat Quota and Domicile Requirements

  • For All India Quota (15% of seats): Open to all NEET-qualified candidates across India; MCC conducts the counselling.
  • For State Quota (85% of seats): Candidates must fulfill the domicile requirements of the respective state and apply through the state counselling authority.
  • Central/Deemed Universities and specific institutions (e.g., AFMC, ESIC, DU, BHU, AMU) have their own additional criteria, often related to institutional quotas or prior study at the institution.

6. Number of Attempts

  • There is no restriction on the number of attempts for NEET. Candidates can appear for the exam as many times as they wish, provided they meet the other eligibility criteria.

7. Required Documents for Counselling

Candidates must present the following documents during the counselling process:

  • NEET Admit Card and Scorecard
  • Class 10 and 12 Mark Sheets and Certificates
  • Identity Proof (Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, or Voter ID)
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Caste/Disability Certificate (if applicable)
  • Additional documents for NRI/OCI candidates (Passport, Embassy Certificate, Sponsorship and Relationship Affidavits).
