NEET Counselling 2025 Procedure: Step-by-Step Overview

NEET counselling is a centralized process conducted for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses across India. It is primarily managed by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats, while state authorities conduct counselling for the 85% State Quota seats. The counselling is mostly online, except for the final reporting to the allotted college, which is offline.

NEET Counselling 2025 Procedure - Key Steps

1. Release of Seat Matrix

  • MCC publishes the seat matrix, listing the available seats in participating colleges for MBBS and BDS courses under the 15% AIQ.

2. Registration

  • Candidates must register online on the official MCC website (mcc.nic.in) for each counselling round (except the Stray Vacancy round).
  • Registration requires personal details, NEET roll number, rank, scores, and payment of a non-refundable registration fee and a refundable security deposit.

3. Choice Filling and Locking

  • After registration, candidates fill in their preferred choices of colleges and courses in order of priority.
  • Choices can be edited, rearranged, or deleted until the choice locking deadline.
  • Candidates must lock their choices before the deadline; otherwise, the system will automatically lock the last saved choices.

4. Seat Allotment

  • Based on NEET rank, preferences, reservation policies, and seat availability, seats are allotted to candidates.
  • The seat allotment result is published online, and candidates receive an allotment letter, which is essential for further admission steps.

5. Reporting to Allotted College

  • Candidates allotted a seat must physically report to the respective college within the specified period.
  • At the college, document verification is conducted, and candidates must pay the admission fee to confirm their seat.

6. Upgradation and Further Rounds

  • Candidates who are not satisfied with their allotted seat or did not get a seat can participate in subsequent rounds (Round 2, Mop-up Round, Stray Vacancy Round) for upgradation or fresh allotment.

Rounds of NEET Counselling 2025

  • There are typically four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Mop-up Round, and Stray Vacancy Round. The number of rounds may vary depending on seat vacancies.

Documents Required in NEET Counselling

  • NEET Admit Card
  • NEET Scorecard/Rank Letter
  • Class 10 & 12 Mark Sheets
  • Identity Proof (Aadhar/PAN/Passport/Voter ID)
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Caste/Disability Certificate (if applicable)
  • For NRI/OCI candidates: Passport, Embassy Certificate, Sponsorship and Relationship Affidavits.

Important Points of NEET Counselling

  • The process is mostly online except for the final reporting to the college.
  • Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria and secure the minimum qualifying percentile in NEET to participate.
  • Seat allotment is strictly based on NEET rank, preferences, reservation norms, and seat availability.
