Who is Eligible for JoSAA?

To be eligible for JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counselling and seat allocation for engineering and architecture programs at IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs, candidates must meet specific criteria:

• Qualifying Exam for JoSAA: Candidates must have qualified either JEE Main or JEE Advanced, depending on the institutes they wish to apply for. JEE Advanced is required for IITs, while JEE Main is required for NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs.
• Class XII (or Equivalent) Marks Required for JoSAA:
  • General Category: At least 75% aggregate marks in Class XII (or equivalent) board examination, or be within the top 20 percentile of their respective board.
  • Reserved Categories (SC/ST/PwD): At least 65% aggregate marks, or be within the top 20 percentile of their respective board.
• Subject Combination: For most engineering programs, candidates must have studied Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. For some programs, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, or a Technical Vocational Subject may be required as an optional subject.
• Year of Passing: Candidates should have appeared for Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2023, 2024, or 2025 (for NITs, IIITs, GFTIs; for IITs, usually 2024 or 2025).
• Nationality: Eligibility is primarily for Indian nationals, including those with OCI or PIO status. Foreign nationals must apply through DASA for NITs, IIITs, SPAs, and CFTIs, while JEE Advanced ranks are considered for IITs.
• Age Limit: The age limit specified in the JEE Main/JEE Advanced brochure applies, but there is no separate age limit for JoSAA counselling.
