Prepositions of Time (with examples)

These prepositions show the time of an action.

• In – used for months, years, centuries, and long periods: She was born in December.
• Since – shows the starting point of time: He has lived here since 2010.
• For – shows the duration of time: I have studied English for two years.

These prepositions show the position or place of something.

• On – something resting on a surface: The pen is on the desk.
• In – something inside an area: The clothes are in the cupboard.
• Under – something below another object: The cat is under the chair.
• Behind – something at the back: The car is parked behind the house.

Prepositions of Movement/Direction (with examples)

These prepositions show the movement from one place to another.

• To – shows movement toward a specific place: She is going to the park.
• Into – movement from outside to inside: The boy jumped into the pool.
• Across – movement from one side to the other: They ran across the road.
• Along – movement in a line: We walked along the beach.
