The Re-NEET 2026 counselling process is expected to become easier in several states because the number of MBBS seats has increased while the number of qualified candidates has declined. According to the NMC MBBS Seat Matrix 2026, a total of 9,911 additional MBBS seats have been introduced across India.
At the same time, several states have reported fewer qualified candidates in the Re-NEET 2026 result compared with the previous year. More medical seats and fewer eligible students may reduce competition during the NEET 2026 state counselling process.
As a result, the NEET 2026 state quota cutoff, government MBBS cutoff 2026, and state-wise closing ranks may become more favourable in Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh.
However, the situation may not be the same everywhere. Competition is expected to remain almost unchanged in Uttar Pradesh, while Rajasthan and Haryana may see slightly tougher competition because their government MBBS seat numbers have not increased.
The following table gives an overview of the expected NEET 2026 government college cutoff trends.
| Particular | Details |
| Total increase in MBBS seats across India | 9,911 seats |
| States where government MBBS admission may become easier | Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh |
| State likely to have competition similar to last year | Uttar Pradesh |
| State likely to see higher competition | Rajasthan |
| State with the largest increase in total MBBS seats | Karnataka: 1,851 seats |
| State with the second-highest seat increase | Tamil Nadu: 999 seats |
| State with the third-highest seat increase | Rajasthan: 900 seats |
| State with the largest fall in qualified candidates | Kerala: 21,546 fewer candidates |
| State with the second-largest fall | Maharashtra: 18,423 fewer candidates |
| State with the third-largest fall | Karnataka: 17,681 fewer candidates |
| States with no increase in government MBBS seats | Kerala, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana |
The NEET 2026 government MBBS cutoff may decrease in several states, but the final trend will depend on the number of seats, qualified candidates, reservation category, domicile rules and counselling choices.
A state may see an easier government MBBS cutoff when:
States such as Karnataka, Kerala and Bihar show a strong possibility of easier admission because they have either added seats, reported a major decline in qualified candidates, or experienced both changes.

States with more medical seats and fewer qualified candidates are expected to have a relatively favourable counselling process. Candidates with comparatively lower NEET scores or higher ranks may get better opportunities in these states.
The Karnataka NEET 2026 government college cutoff is expected to become easier because the state has recorded the largest increase in total MBBS seats. Karnataka has added 1,851 MBBS seats, taking the total number of seats from 13,544 to 15,395. Government MBBS seats have also increased by 151.

At the same time, the number of qualified candidates has fallen from 83,582 to 65,901. This is a decline of 17,681 candidates, or more than 20%. The combination of more seats and fewer qualified students may improve the chances of securing a medical seat through Karnataka NEET counselling 2026.
| Parameter | 2025 | 2026 | Change |
| Government college closing rank | 70,627 | Easier cutoff expected | — |
| Government MBBS seats | 4,249 | 4,400 | +151 |
| Total MBBS seats | 13,544 | 15,395 | +1,851 |
| Qualified candidates | 83,582 | 65,901 | −17,681 |
The Karnataka government MBBS closing rank may move beyond the previous-year rank in some categories and colleges. The actual result will depend on category-wise seat distribution, domicile eligibility and the number of candidates participating in counselling.
The Kerala NEET 2026 state quota cutoff may become more favourable because the state has experienced the largest reduction in qualified candidates. The number of qualified candidates has declined from 73,328 to 51,782. This means 21,546 fewer students are eligible compared with the previous year, representing a fall of nearly 30%.
Kerala has also added 300 total MBBS seats. Although the number of government MBBS seats remains unchanged at 1,855, the sharp fall in qualified candidates may reduce overall competition.

| Parameter | 2025 | 2026 | Change |
| Government college closing rank | 10,555 | Easier cutoff expected | — |
| Government MBBS seats | 1,855 | 1,855 | 0 |
| Total MBBS seats | 5,404 | 5,704 | +300 |
| Qualified candidates | 73,328 | 51,782 | −21,546 |
The Kerala NEET government college cutoff 2026 may fall because fewer students are competing for the available seats. Candidates who were slightly outside the admission range in the previous year may have better chances, particularly during later counselling rounds.
However, government medical colleges in Kerala are highly preferred. Therefore, top colleges may continue to have a competitive cutoff despite the overall decline in qualified candidates.
The Bihar government MBBS cutoff 2026 is expected to become easier due to an increase in medical seats and a decline in qualified students. The state has added 740 total MBBS seats, increasing the seat count from 3,420 to 4,160. Government MBBS seats have increased by 190.
Meanwhile, the number of qualified candidates has fallen from 80,954 to 68,968. This is a reduction of 11,986 candidates.
| Parameter | 2025 | 2026 | Change |
| Government college closing rank | 19,226 | Easier cutoff expected | — |
| Government MBBS seats | 1,520 | 1,710 | +190 |
| Total MBBS seats | 3,420 | 4,160 | +740 |
| Qualified candidates | 80,954 | 68,968 | −11,986 |
The increase in government seats may directly benefit Bihar domicile candidates. With almost 12,000 fewer qualified candidates and 190 additional government seats, the Bihar NEET 2026 closing rank may become more favourable than in 2025.
The benefit may be more visible in newer government colleges and during the second, third and stray-vacancy counselling rounds.
The Tamil Nadu NEET cutoff 2026 is expected to remain favourable because the state has added a large number of MBBS seats while the qualified candidate count has declined. Tamil Nadu has added 999 total MBBS seats, the second-highest increase among the states covered in this analysis. Government MBBS seats have increased by 149.
The number of qualified candidates has decreased from 76,181 to 61,306, resulting in 14,875 fewer qualified students.
| Parameter | 2025 | 2026 | Change |
| Government MBBS seats | 5,200 | 5,349 | +149 |
| Total MBBS seats | 13,000 | 13,999 | +999 |
| Qualified candidates | 76,181 | 61,306 | −14,875 |
The combination of additional government seats and fewer qualified candidates is likely to reduce pressure during Tamil Nadu NEET counselling 2026.
Government colleges in major cities may continue to close at high scores. However, government medical colleges in less preferred locations may remain available at comparatively lower marks or higher ranks than last year.
The Maharashtra NEET 2026 government college cutoff may become slightly easier because the state has more MBBS seats and significantly fewer qualified candidates. Maharashtra has added 400 total MBBS seats, including 50 government seats. At the same time, the number of qualified candidates has decreased from 1,25,727 to 1,07,304.
This represents a decline of 18,423 candidates, the second-largest reduction among the states included in the analysis.
| Parameter | 2025 | 2026 | Change |
| Government college closing rank | 47,550 | More favourable than 2025 expected | — |
| Government MBBS seats | 5,950 | 6,000 | +50 |
| Total MBBS seats | 12,699 | 13,099 | +400 |
| Qualified candidates | 1,25,727 | 1,07,304 | −18,423 |
The increase of only 50 government seats may not produce a major cutoff change on its own. However, the large fall in qualified candidates could reduce competition during the Maharashtra NEET state counselling process.
The government MBBS closing rank may improve slightly, particularly in newer colleges and during later rounds. Established government medical colleges in Mumbai, Pune and other preferred cities are still expected to remain highly competitive.
An increase in total MBBS seats does not always make government medical admission easier. Private college seats and government college seats have different fee structures, demand levels and counselling rules.
Competition may remain high when:
Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana fall into this category.
The UP NEET 2026 state quota cutoff is expected to remain close to the 2025 level. Uttar Pradesh has added 800 total MBBS seats. However, the number of government MBBS seats remains unchanged at 5,700.
The number of qualified candidates has increased by only 86, from 1,70,684 to 1,70,770. This is a very small change, which indicates that the size of the qualified candidate pool is almost the same as last year.
| Parameter | 2025 | 2026 | Change |
| Government college closing rank | 32,366 | Similar trend expected | — |
| Government MBBS seats | 5,700 | 5,700 | 0 |
| Total MBBS seats | 13,200 | 14,000 | +800 |
| Qualified candidates | 1,70,684 | 1,70,770 | +86 |
Since government seat availability has not changed and the number of qualified students is almost stable, the UP NEET government college cutoff 2026 may remain similar to the previous year.
The addition of private MBBS seats may reduce some pressure, but it may not have a major effect on government college admission because government seats continue to be the first preference for many candidates.
The Rajasthan government MBBS cutoff 2026 may remain high or become slightly more competitive. Rajasthan has added 900 total MBBS seats, which is the third-highest increase in this analysis. However, there has been no increase in government MBBS seats.
At the same time, the number of qualified candidates has risen from 1,19,865 to 1,33,140. This is an increase of 13,275 students.
| Parameter | 2025 | 2026 | Change |
| Government college closing rank | 26,451 | Competitive cutoff expected | — |
| Government MBBS seats | 4,480 | 4,480 | 0 |
| Total MBBS seats | 7,180 | 8,080 | +900 |
| Qualified candidates | 1,19,865 | 1,33,140 | +13,275 |
The rise in qualified candidates may increase competition for government medical colleges. Although total seats have increased, the new seats do not include additional government MBBS seats.
Therefore, the Rajasthan NEET state quota cutoff may remain close to last year or become slightly higher, especially for popular government colleges and competitive reservation categories.
The Haryana NEET government college cutoff 2026 may remain similar to last year or become slightly higher. Haryana has added 250 total MBBS seats, but the number of government seats remains fixed at 1,060.
The qualified candidate count has increased from 35,592 to 36,622. This means 1,030 more candidates may compete for the same number of government MBBS seats.
| Parameter | 2025 | 2026 | Change |
| Government college closing rank | 24,433 | Similar or more competitive trend expected | — |
| Government MBBS seats | 1,060 | 1,060 | 0 |
| Total MBBS seats | 2,710 | 2,960 | +250 |
| Qualified candidates | 35,592 | 36,622 | +1,030 |
The small rise in qualified candidates and the absence of additional government seats may keep the competition strong.
The increase in private medical college seats may help some candidates, but it is unlikely to reduce the Haryana government MBBS cutoff significantly because government colleges generally remain the preferred option due to their lower tuition fees.
The table below summarises the likely direction of the NEET 2026 government medical college cutoff.
| State | 2025 Government College Closing Rank | Re-NEET 2026 Expected Trend |
| Uttar Pradesh | 32,366 | Similar to 2025 |
| Rajasthan | 26,451 | Similar or slightly more competitive |
| Maharashtra | 47,550 | Slightly easier |
| Bihar | 19,226 | Easier |
| Karnataka | 70,627 | Much easier |
| Kerala | 10,555 | Easier |
| Gujarat | 91,590 | Easier |
| Telangana | 1,79,364 | Easier |
| West Bengal | 46,820 | Easier |
| Madhya Pradesh | 61,341 | Easier |
These trends are estimates and should not be treated as confirmed closing ranks. The final cutoff will be available only after the completion of the state counselling rounds.
The NEET 2026 government MBBS cutoff may decrease in several states mainly because of changes in seat availability and the number of qualified candidates.
India has added 9,911 MBBS seats according to the available NMC MBBS Seat Matrix 2026 data. An increase in seats gives more students an opportunity to enter medical colleges.
However, candidates should check whether the additional seats belong to:
An increase in government seats usually has a stronger effect on the state quota cutoff than an increase limited to private colleges.
Several states have reported fewer qualified candidates in the Re-NEET 2026 result. When the candidate pool becomes smaller, fewer students compete for the available medical seats.
Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Bihar have recorded major reductions in qualified candidates. This may make their counselling process more favourable.
The seat-to-candidate ratio compares the number of available seats with the number of eligible students.
When seats rise and qualified candidates fall, the ratio improves. This can cause:
Newly opened government or private medical colleges can increase the number of options available during counselling. New institutions may also have a lower closing cutoff than old and highly preferred colleges.
Cutoffs are affected not only by scores but also by the choices filled by candidates. Some students may:
These movements affect the closing rank in every counselling round.
The expected NEET 2026 state quota cutoff for government MBBS admission has been analysed using the following factors.
Government MBBS seats are usually more important than total seats because they offer lower fees and receive greater demand.
A state may add hundreds of total seats but still have no increase in government seats. In that situation, the government college cutoff may not fall significantly.
An increase in total MBBS seats can reduce overall competition by giving students more private and government college options.
However, its effect depends on the fees, location, college type and number of state quota seats.
A fall in qualified candidates may improve admission chances. A rise in qualified candidates can create stronger competition, especially when government seats remain unchanged.
The previous-year closing rank provides a useful reference point for estimating the next counselling trend. However, it cannot guarantee the current-year cutoff because seat distribution and candidate preferences can change.
The NEET state quota cutoff 2026 will be different for:
Candidates should compare their rank with the cutoff for their own category rather than relying only on the overall closing rank.
Most state quota seats require candidates to meet domicile, residence, schooling or eligibility conditions. These rules vary from one state to another and can influence the number of eligible applicants.
Older government colleges, colleges in major cities and institutions with strong hospital facilities usually have higher cutoffs. New or less preferred colleges may remain available at lower scores.
Closing ranks can change across:
Later rounds may offer opportunities to candidates with higher ranks, but seat availability is uncertain.
| Admission Outlook | States |
| Much easier admission expected | Karnataka |
| Easier admission expected | Kerala, Bihar, Gujarat, Telangana, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh |
| Slightly easier admission expected | Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra |
| Similar competition expected | Uttar Pradesh |
| Similar or slightly tougher competition expected | Haryana |
| Higher competition possible | Rajasthan |
Based on the available seat and candidate data, Karnataka may experience one of the most favourable NEET 2026 government MBBS admission trends.
The state has:
Kerala may also see an easier cutoff because it has reported the largest fall in qualified candidates. However, its government seat count has not increased.
Bihar and Tamil Nadu may offer improved admission chances because both states have added government seats and reported fewer qualified candidates.
Rajasthan may have one of the more competitive NEET 2026 state quota cutoffs because:
Haryana may also see a similar or slightly higher cutoff because its government seat count remains unchanged while the number of qualified candidates has increased.
Uttar Pradesh is expected to remain close to last year because there is almost no change in the qualified candidate count or government seat availability.
Candidates should not depend only on the expected cutoff. A careful counselling strategy can improve the chances of admission.
Candidates should include a mix of:
Limiting the choice list to only a few popular colleges may reduce the chance of seat allotment.
The general closing rank may not apply to every student. Candidates should review their category, domicile and sub-category cutoff before making a decision.
A seat may become available after another candidate upgrades, resigns or joins through a different quota. Therefore, students should follow every eligible counselling round.
Commonly required documents may include:
The exact document list can vary by state.
Students should regularly check the official state counselling website for:

The NEET 2026 cutoff may be lower in states where MBBS seats have increased and qualified candidates have declined. Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra may see more favourable admission trends.
Karnataka may have one of the easiest trends because it has added 1,851 total MBBS seats and reported 17,681 fewer qualified candidates.
The Karnataka NEET cutoff may decrease because both government and total MBBS seats have increased while the number of qualified students has fallen significantly.
Kerala may see a lower cutoff because the number of qualified candidates has declined by 21,546. However, government MBBS seats remain unchanged.
A major decrease is not expected in Uttar Pradesh. Government seats remain unchanged, and the qualified candidate count has increased by only 86. The cutoff may remain close to the 2025 level.
Rajasthan may remain competitive because 13,275 more candidates have qualified, while government MBBS seats have not increased.
No. The government college cutoff may not fall when the added seats are mainly in private colleges. Government seat availability and the number of qualified candidates have a stronger effect on government MBBS admission.
The closing rank depends on seat availability, candidate scores, reservation category, domicile rules, college preference, choice filling and vacancies in each counselling round.
Candidates with comparatively lower scores or higher ranks may have better chances in states where seats have increased and competition has declined. Admission is not guaranteed and will depend on category, domicile and round-wise vacancies.
No. Expected cutoffs are estimates based on seat numbers, qualified candidate data and previous-year closing ranks. Official cutoffs will be known only after counselling.
