Detailed Solution

No, a student who has failed Class 12 cannot apply for JEE Main or JEE Advanced. You must first pass your Class 12 (or equivalent) examination with the required subjects to be eligible for these exams.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria

  • Passing Requirement:
    • You must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent qualifying examination to be eligible for JEE Main.
    • Candidates currently appearing in Class 12 can apply provisionally, but must pass before admission.
  • Subjects Needed:
    • For B.E./B.Tech: Physics, Mathematics, and one of Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational Subject in Class 12.
    • For B.Arch/B.Plan: Mathematics is mandatory.
  • Year of Passing:
    • For JEE Main 2025, you must have passed Class 12 in 2023, 2024, or be appearing in 2025.

If You Fail Class 12

  • Not Eligible Immediately:
    • If you fail in Class 12, you cannot apply for JEE that year.
    • You may reappear for your board exams the following year. Once you pass, you become eligible to apply for JEE in the next cycle.
  • Example Scenario:
    • If you failed in 2023 and passed in 2024, you can apply for JEE Main in 2024, 2025, and 2026 (if within the allowed number of attempts and age criteria).

JEE Advanced Specifics

  • First Appearance Rule:
    • JEE Advanced counts attempts from your first appearance in the Class 12 board exam, even if you failed.
    • You are eligible for JEE Advanced in the two consecutive years after your first appearance, but only if you pass Class 12 and meet other criteria.

Important Pointers

  • You cannot apply for JEE Main or Advanced if you have failed Class 12.
  • You must pass Class 12 with the required subjects to become eligible.
  • After passing, you can apply for JEE in the allowed years and within the attempt limits.
