Define Voice?

Voice in English grammar shows whether the subject of a sentence is doing the action or receiving it.
It tells us who is acting and who is being acted upon.

There are two types of voice Active Voice and Passive Voice.

Example:

Riya reads a book. → The subject (Riya) is doing the action.

What is Active Voice?

In Active Voice, the subject does the action in the sentence.

It is direct, clear, and easy to understand.

Formula: Subject + Verb + Object

Examples:

• Aman kicks the ball.
• The teacher explains the lesson.
• My brother cleans the car.

(Here, the subject Aman, teacher, brother is doing the action.)

What is Passive Voice?

In Passive Voice, the subject receives the action.
The focus is on what happens or who the action is done to, not on who does it.

Formula: Object + “to be” verb + Past Participle + by + Subject

Examples:

• The ball is kicked by Amal.
• The lesson is explained by the teacher.
• The car is cleaned by my brother.
• (Here, the action is happening to the subject.)
