JEE Advanced 2026 results are out, and most students are now asking the same question: “What IIT can I get with my marks and category rank?”
The answer depends on two things: your marks out of 360 and the rank list you are considered under. A General category student is mainly allotted seats through CRL, while OBC-NCL, GEN-EWS, SC, ST and PwD students are considered through their respective category rank lists during JoSAA counselling.
This page explains JEE Advanced 2026 marks vs rank category-wise, including CRL rank, OBC-NCL rank, GEN-EWS rank, SC rank, ST rank and PwD rank. You will also find extended rank tables for CRL up to 18,000 and OBC-NCL rank up to 11,000, along with IIT admission chances and FAQs.
Use Infinity Learn’s JEE Advanced Rank Predictor to estimate your AIR and category rank, then compare it with the tables below.
Before checking the marks vs rank tables, understand these common JEE Advanced rank terms:
| Term | Meaning |
| CRL | CRL means Common Rank List. It ranks all qualified candidates together, regardless of category. General/Open seats are allotted using CRL. |
| Category Rank | Category rank is your rank within your reservation category, such as OBC-NCL, GEN-EWS, SC or ST. It is used for category-reserved seats. |
| OBC-NCL Rank | OBC-NCL rank is the rank given to candidates belonging to the Other Backward Classes Non-Creamy Layer category. OBC-NCL seats are allotted using this rank. |
| GEN-EWS Rank | GEN-EWS rank is given to candidates under the Economically Weaker Section category. EWS seats are allotted using this category rank. |
| SC/ST Rank | SC and ST candidates receive separate SC or ST category ranks. Reserved SC/ST IIT seats are allotted using these ranks. |
| PwD Rank | PwD rank is given to eligible Persons with Disabilities candidates. PwD seats are considered through PwD rank within the applicable category. |
The qualifying cutoff is the minimum score required to be included in a JEE Advanced rank list. It does not guarantee an IIT seat. Admission depends on JoSAA opening and closing ranks, category, branch preference, seat type and round of counselling.
| Rank List | Minimum Marks in Each Subject | Minimum Aggregate Marks |
| Common Rank List (CRL) | 8 | 92 |
| OBC-NCL Rank List | 7 | 82 |
| GEN-EWS Rank List | 7 | 82 |
| SC Rank List | 4 | 46 |
| ST Rank List | 4 | 46 |
| Common-PwD Rank List | 4 | 46 |
| OBC-NCL-PwD Rank List | 4 | 46 |
| GEN-EWS-PwD Rank List | 4 | 46 |
| SC-PwD Rank List | 4 | 46 |
| ST-PwD Rank List | 4 | 46 |
| Preparatory Course Rank List | 2 | 23 |
To be included in a rank list, a candidate must clear both conditions together:
Clearing only the total marks is not enough if the subject-wise cutoff is not cleared.

Many students confuse CRL rank with category rank. The difference is important because JoSAA uses different rank lists for different seat types.
| CRL Rank | Category Rank |
| Common Rank List rank given across all qualified candidates. | Rank within a specific category such as OBC-NCL, GEN-EWS, SC, ST or PwD. |
| Used for Open/General seats. | Used for reserved category seats. |
| A candidate from any category can have a CRL rank if they meet the CRL cutoff. | Only eligible candidates from that category get the respective category rank. |
| Example: CRL 12,000 means your all-India position among CRL-qualified candidates is around 12,000. | Example: OBC-NCL rank 4,500 means your position among OBC-NCL qualified candidates is around 4,500. |
| JoSAA opening/closing ranks for Open seats represent CRL. | JoSAA opening/closing ranks for OBC-NCL, EWS, SC and ST seats represent category ranks. |
| PwD candidates may also receive a PwD rank. | PwD seat allotment uses PwD rank within the respective category. |
This table gives an estimated marks vs CRL rank range for JEE Advanced 2026. It is most useful for General/Open category students and for any student trying to understand their all-India standing.

| 96 – 100 | 16,001 – 17,000 |
| 92 – 95 | 17,001 – 18,000 |
For JEE Advanced 2026, a CRL rank around 16,000 is expected at approximately 101–107 marks. This may vary depending on subject-wise cutoff, tie-breaking and category-wise distribution.
A CRL rank around 17,000 is expected at approximately 96–100 marks. This range is close to the CRL qualifying zone, so branch and IIT options may be limited for Open category students.
A CRL rank around 18,000 is expected at approximately 92–95 marks. Since 92 is the official CRL qualifying aggregate mark for 2026, this is near the lower end of the Common Rank List.
OBC-NCL candidates receive a separate category rank list. During JoSAA counselling, OBC-NCL seats are allotted using OBC-NCL category rank, not CRL.

| Marks out of 360 | Expected OBC-NCL Rank | Approx. Equivalent CRL Range |
| 260+ | Under 100 | Under 500 |
| 240 – 259 | 101 – 300 | 500 – 1,200 |
| 220 – 239 | 301 – 700 | 1,200 – 2,500 |
| 200 – 219 | 701 – 1,200 | 2,500 – 4,000 |
| 180 – 199 | 1,201 – 2,000 | 4,000 – 6,000 |
| 165 – 179 | 2,001 – 3,000 | 6,000 – 8,500 |
| 155 – 164 | 3,001 – 4,000 | 8,500 – 11,000 |
| 145 – 154 | 4,001 – 5,000 | 11,000 – 13,000 |

| 126 – 134 | 6,001 – 7,000 | 15,000 – 17,000 |
| 116 – 125 | 7,001 – 8,000 | 17,000 – 20,000 |
| 106 – 115 | 8,001 – 9,000 | 20,000 – 24,000 |
| 94 – 105 | 9,001 – 10,000 | 24,000 – 28,000 |
| 82 – 93 | 10,001 – 11,000 | Near qualifying range |
For an OBC-NCL rank around 4,000, the expected score is approximately 155–164 marks. This range can give access to newer IITs and selected branches depending on JoSAA round and seat availability.
For OBC-NCL ranks between 5,000 and 8,000, the expected score is around 116–144 marks. Candidates in this range should fill a wide choice list including newer IITs, less competitive branches and later-round possibilities.
For OBC-NCL rank around 10,000 to 11,000, the expected score may fall between 82 and 105 marks. This is close to the qualifying zone, so admission chances depend heavily on category seat availability, branch flexibility and JoSAA rounds.
GEN-EWS and OBC-NCL qualifying cutoffs are usually close, but the rank list and seat matrix are separate. EWS candidates must have a valid EWS certificate during JoSAA document verification.
| Marks out of 360 | Expected GEN-EWS Rank | IIT Chances |
| 240+ | Under 300 | Strong old IIT options |
| 220 – 239 | 301 – 700 | Old IITs, most non-CSE branches possible |
| 200 – 219 | 701 – 1,200 | Old and mid IITs with good branch options |
| 180 – 199 | 1,201 – 2,000 | Mid IITs and selected old IIT branches |
| 160 – 179 | 2,001 – 3,500 | Newer IITs and selected mid-IIT branches |
| 140 – 159 | 3,501 – 5,500 | Newer IITs, branch flexibility needed |
| 120 – 139 | 5,501 – 7,500 | Newer IITs, limited branch options |
| 98 – 119 | 7,501 – 10,000 | Near qualifying/admission borderline |
| 82 – 97 | 10,000+ | Very limited IIT chances |
SC candidates are considered under a separate SC rank list for reserved SC seats. The qualifying cutoff is lower than CRL, but admission to top IIT branches still needs a strong category rank.
| Marks out of 360 | Expected SC Rank | IIT Chances |
| 180+ | Under 200 | Top IITs, strong branch options |
| 160 – 179 | 201 – 400 | Old IITs, many good branches |
| 140 – 159 | 401 – 700 | Old/mid IITs, core branches possible |
| 120 – 139 | 701 – 1,200 | Mid IITs, good branch selection |
| 100 – 119 | 1,201 – 2,000 | Mid and newer IITs |
| 80 – 99 | 2,001 – 3,200 | Newer IITs, branch flexibility needed |
| 60 – 79 | 3,201 – 5,000 | Limited IIT options |
| 46 – 59 | 5,000+ | Qualifying range, very limited options |
ST candidates also have a separate category rank list. Because the number of candidates is smaller, rank movement can be sharp at higher scores.
| Marks out of 360 | Expected ST Rank | IIT Chances |
| 160+ | Under 100 | Top IITs, strong branch options |
| 140 – 159 | 101 – 250 | Old IITs, several branches possible |

| 60 – 79 | 1,501 – 2,500 | Limited branch options |
| 46 – 59 | 2,500+ | Qualifying range, limited IIT chances |
PwD candidates may be considered through PwD rank lists depending on their base category and eligibility. PwD rank is different from CRL and different from regular category rank.
| Marks out of 360 | Expected PwD Rank | Notes |
| 150+ | Under 100 | Strong IIT options across categories |
| 120 – 149 | 101 – 250 | Mid and old IIT possibilities |

To predict colleges correctly, do not compare only marks. Compare your rank type with JoSAA opening and closing ranks.
For Open/General seats, compare your CRL with the closing ranks of IIT branches. For example, if your CRL is around 16,000–18,000, top branches in old IITs will usually be out of reach, but some newer IIT branches or less competitive programs may still be considered depending on round-wise seat movement.
For OBC-NCL seats, compare your OBC-NCL category rank with OBC-NCL closing ranks, not CRL. An OBC rank around 4,000–6,000 may still offer better IIT chances than the same CRL number because reserved seats follow the category rank list.
SC and ST candidates should compare their SC/ST category rank with the relevant JoSAA seat type. A score that looks low by CRL standards can still produce a strong category rank and open good IIT options.
PwD candidates should compare their PwD rank within the applicable category. PwD opening and closing ranks are separate from regular Open, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC and ST closing ranks.
Your next step depends on your score and rank range.
Fill top IITs and top branches first, but do not ignore mid-IIT options. Add enough backup choices so that you do not miss admission due to overconfidence.
Create a balanced choice list. Include old IIT lower-demand branches, mid-IIT core branches, newer IIT popular branches and interdisciplinary programs.
Do not fill only dream branches. Add a large number of choices across newer IITs and flexible branches. Also track JoSAA round-wise movement carefully.
Use your category rank for category seats. Do not make decisions based only on CRL. Your category rank may give you access to options that are not visible through CRL-based comparison.

CRL stands for Common Rank List. It is the all-India rank list of candidates who meet the CRL qualifying cutoff. Open/General seats in JoSAA are allotted using CRL.
Category rank is the rank given within a specific category such as OBC-NCL, GEN-EWS, SC, ST or PwD. Category-reserved seats are allotted using category ranks.
Yes. CRL rank is the common all-India rank, while OBC-NCL rank is the rank among OBC-NCL candidates. During JoSAA counselling, OBC-NCL seats are allotted using OBC-NCL category rank.
For Open seats, JoSAA uses CRL. For OBC-NCL, GEN-EWS, SC and ST seats, JoSAA uses the respective category rank. For PwD seats, JoSAA uses PwD rank within the applicable category.
For JEE Advanced 2026, a CRL rank around 16,000 is expected at approximately 101–107 marks out of 360.
A CRL rank around 17,000 is expected at approximately 96–100 marks out of 360.
A CRL rank around 18,000 is expected at approximately 92–95 marks out of 360. This is close to the official CRL qualifying cutoff.
At around 140 marks, the expected OBC-NCL rank may be around 5,000–6,000. The exact rank can vary depending on overall performance and tie-breaking.
For OBC-NCL rank around 4,000, the expected score is approximately 155–164 marks out of 360.
For OBC-NCL rank around 10,000, the expected score may be around 94–105 marks. This is a borderline admission range, so candidates should fill a wide choice list.
Yes, it may be possible, but options are usually limited for Open category candidates. Newer IITs, less competitive branches and later JoSAA rounds may offer possibilities.
With CRL around 17,000, IIT chances are limited but not impossible. Candidates should check JoSAA closing ranks carefully and include flexible branch choices.
An OBC-NCL rank around 8,000 may still give some IIT possibilities, especially in newer IITs or less competitive branches. Choice filling should be broad and realistic.
Yes. PwD rank is separate and is used for PwD seats. A PwD candidate may also have a CRL or base category rank depending on eligibility and cutoff.
No. Qualifying JEE Advanced only makes a candidate eligible for the rank list and JoSAA counselling. IIT admission depends on opening and closing ranks, seat availability, category, branch and counselling round.
A safe score depends on category. For General candidates, 150+ improves chances for newer IITs, while 220+ is safer for old IIT branches. For OBC-NCL/EWS, 125–150+ can open newer IIT options. For SC/ST candidates, lower marks may still give good chances depending on category rank.
