JEE Advanced 2026 registration for Indian nationals opens on April 23, 2026 at 10:00 AM IST at the official portal jeeadv.ac.in. The registration window closes on May 2, 2026 at 23:59 IST, and the last date to pay the application fee is May 4, 2026 at 23:59 IST. JEE Advanced 2026 is being conducted by IIT Roorkee and the exam is scheduled for May 17, 2026.
Only candidates who qualified JEE Main 2026 and secured a rank within the top 2,50,000 are eligible to register. JEE Advanced is the sole gateway to undergraduate programmes at all 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). With a registration window of just 10 days and no extension policy, completing your application on time is critical.
JEE Advanced 2026 registration starts April 23, 2026 (10 AM IST) and ends May 2, 2026 (23:59 IST) at jeeadv.ac.in. Fee payment deadline is May 4, 2026. Eligibility: top 2,50,000 JEE Main 2026 qualifiers, born on or after October 1, 2001 (General), maximum 2 attempts. Registration fee: ₹3,200 for General/OBC-NCL male; ₹1,600 for female, SC, ST, PwD candidates. Exam date: May 17, 2026.
JEE Advanced 2026 is the second stage of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and the only route to undergraduate admission at all 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). It is one of the most competitive engineering entrance exams in the world, with approximately 1.8–2 lakh candidates appearing each year and an average qualification rate of around 18%.
JEE Advanced 2026 is conducted by IIT Roorkee in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. The exam consists of two compulsory papers — Paper 1 and Paper 2 — each of three hours duration, held on the same day. There are a total of 18,160 undergraduate seats across all 23 IITs. Additionally, several international universities — including institutions in Singapore and the UK — consider JEE Advanced scores for their own admissions.

Critical deadline: The registration form and fee payment have separate deadlines — May 2 and May 4 respectively. Submitting the form without completing fee payment makes your registration invalid. Both steps are mandatory.
Before registering, every candidate must verify that they meet all five eligibility conditions set by IIT Roorkee. Failing even one condition makes you ineligible — all five must be satisfied simultaneously.
Candidates must be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in the B.E./B.Tech. paper of JEE Main 2026.

Category-wise distribution of the 2,50,000 qualifying seats:
| Category | Number of Seats |
| General (UR) | Based on 82.4164528 percentile cutoff |
| OBC-NCL | Based on 80.9232583 percentile cutoff |
| SC | Based on 63.9172792 percentile cutoff |
| ST | Based on 52.0174712 percentile cutoff |
| PwD (within each category) | 5% horizontal reservation |
Note: The total may slightly exceed 2,50,000 if there are tied ranks at the boundary in any category.

| Category | Date of Birth Requirement |
| General / OBC-NCL / EWS | Born on or after October 1, 2001 |
| SC / ST / PwD | Born on or after October 1, 1996 (5-year relaxation) |
Candidates can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of 2 times in 2 consecutive years. If you appeared for JEE Advanced 2025 (for the first time), you can appear in 2026 (second and final attempt). If you appeared for JEE Advanced 2024 and 2025, you are not eligible for 2026.
Candidates who have been admitted to an IIT through JoSAA (in any previous year) and whose admission was not cancelled are NOT eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2026. However, candidates who were admitted to a preparatory course at any IIT in 2025 for the first time can attempt JEE Advanced 2026.
Candidates must have appeared in Class 12 (or equivalent) for the first time in either 2025 or 2026. Candidates who appeared in 2024 or earlier and did not improve their marks are not eligible.
Additionally, candidates must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, with a minimum aggregate of 75% marks (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or must be in the top 20 percentile of their respective board.

The registration fee for JEE Advanced 2026 varies by category and nationality:
| Category | Registration Fee |
| General (Male) | ₹3,200 |
| OBC-NCL (Male) | ₹3,200 |
| Female (all categories) | ₹1,600 |
| SC (Male) | ₹1,600 |
| ST (Male) | ₹1,600 |
| PwD (Male) | ₹1,600 |
| Candidate Type | Fee |
| SAARC countries | USD 150 |
| Non-SAARC countries | USD 200 |
Important: The registration fee once paid is non-refundable and non-transferable under any circumstances. Payment can be made via debit card, credit card, or net banking on the jeeadv.ac.in portal.
The entire JEE Advanced 2026 registration process is conducted online. No hard copies need to be sent to IIT Roorkee. Follow these steps carefully:
Before visiting jeeadv.ac.in, confirm your eligibility on jeemain.nta.nic.in:
After login, verify all pre-filled details and complete the remaining sections:
Category is final at this stage. Your category is fetched from JEE Main records and cannot be changed during JEE Advanced registration. Ensure your JEE Main category was correct before registering.
Upload scanned copies of all required documents in JPG/PNG format within the size specifications:
| Document | Who Needs It |
| Class 10 Certificate | All candidates (date of birth proof) |
| Class 12 Marksheet / Certificate | All candidates (eligibility proof) |
| OBC-NCL Certificate | OBC-NCL candidates |
| GEN-EWS Certificate | EWS candidates |
| SC Certificate | SC candidates |
| ST Certificate | ST candidates |
| PwD / UDID Certificate | PwD candidates |
| Gazette Notification for Name Change | If name differs from Class 10 records |
Uploading blurry or low-quality scans is one of the most common causes of application rejection. Use a scanner or a clear, high-resolution phone photograph. Upload in the prescribed format and size.
Submitting the application form without completing the fee payment makes your registration invalid. Always ensure payment is completed and confirmed before the fee deadline.
Use this quick checklist to verify your eligibility before registering:
| Condition | Your Status |
| JEE Main 2026 AIR within top 2,50,000? | Check at jeemain.nta.nic.in |
| Born on or after Oct 1, 2001 (General) / Oct 1, 1996 (SC/ST/PwD)? | Check birth certificate |
| First-time appearance in Class 12 in 2025 or 2026? | Verify board records |
| Total JEE Advanced attempts so far is 0 or 1? | Self-verify |
| Not previously admitted to any IIT (or admission was cancelled)? | Self-verify |
If all five conditions are met, you are eligible to register.
Category certificates are among the most rejected documents during JEE Advanced registration. Follow these rules strictly:
| Category | Certificate Rule |
| OBC-NCL | Must be in Central Government format and issued on or after April 1, 2026 |
| GEN-EWS | Must be issued on or after April 1, 2026 |
| SC | No date restriction — certificate of any year is valid |
| ST | No date restriction — certificate of any year is valid |
| PwD | UDID certificate or appropriate medical certificate in prescribed format |
State-format OBC certificates are not accepted for JEE Advanced or JoSAA. The certificate must specifically state "OBC-NCL" and be issued by the competent authority in the Central Government format. An incorrect or outdated certificate leads to category reversal to General and potential disqualification.
The JEE Advanced 2026 admit card will be available for download from May 11, 2026 at 17:00 IST until May 17, 2026 at 14:30 IST on jeeadv.ac.in. No hard copy will be sent by post.
To download the admit card:
The admit card is a mandatory document for the exam. Candidates without a valid admit card will not be allowed to enter the exam centre.
JEE Advanced 2026 consists of two compulsory papers conducted on the same day, May 17, 2026:
| Paper | Timing | Duration | Subjects |
| Paper 1 | Morning session | 3 hours | Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics |
| Paper 2 | Afternoon session | 3 hours | Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics |
| Feature | Detail |
| Mode | Computer-Based Test (CBT) |
| Medium | English and Hindi |
| Negative Marking | Yes — varies by question type each year |
| Partial Marking | Yes — applicable for certain question types |
| Syllabus | Class 11 and 12 Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics |
| Pattern Change | No fixed pattern — IIT Roorkee may change structure each year |
Note: Unlike JEE Main, JEE Advanced does not follow a fixed exam pattern. The marking scheme, question types, and total marks can vary each year. Refer to the official JEE Advanced 2026 Information Brochure at jeeadv.ac.in for the exact pattern when released.
Foreign national candidates (OCI/PIO) are exempted from appearing in JEE Main and can register directly for JEE Advanced 2026. Registration for foreign nationals opened on April 6, 2026 and closes on May 2, 2026.
| Feature | Details |
| Registration Opens | April 6, 2026 |
| Registration Closes | May 2, 2026 |
| Fee (SAARC Countries) | USD 150 |
| Fee (Non-SAARC Countries) | USD 200 |
| JEE Main Required? | No |
Mistake 1 – Missing the Fee Payment Deadline (May 4) Many students complete the form by May 2 but miss the fee payment deadline of May 4. Submitting the form without paying the fee makes the entire registration invalid. Pay immediately after form submission.
Mistake 2 – Uploading an Outdated OBC-NCL or GEN-EWS Certificate OBC-NCL and GEN-EWS certificates must be issued on or after April 1, 2026. Uploading an older certificate leads to automatic category reversal to General, causing loss of reservation benefits.
Mistake 3 – Uploading Blurry or Incorrect Documents Low-quality scans cause application rejection. Scan documents using a proper scanner or take a well-lit, flat, high-resolution photograph. Ensure the document is readable, all corners are visible, and there is no glare.
Mistake 4 – Assuming Category Can Be Changed Your category for JEE Advanced is fetched from JEE Main and cannot be changed at the registration stage. If your category in JEE Main was incorrect, you cannot fix it at jeeadv.ac.in.
Mistake 5 – Registering with Incorrect Exam City Preferences You can select up to 8 exam city preferences. IIT Roorkee allots a centre from your preference list. If you enter cities you cannot travel to, you may be assigned an inconvenient centre. Enter cities in genuine order of preference.
Mistake 6 – Not Downloading the Confirmation Page After fee payment, many students close the browser without downloading the confirmation page. This page is your only proof that registration was successful. Download and print it immediately.
Mistake 7 – Waiting Until the Last Day The portal experiences heavy traffic on the last day of registration. Server slowdowns, payment gateway failures, and document upload errors are common. Register and pay by April 28–29 to avoid last-minute issues.
Yes. If your Class 12 board result has not been declared by the time of JEE Advanced 2026 registration (April 23–May 2), you can still register as an appearing candidate. However, you must submit your Class 12 pass certificate and marksheet at the time of JoSAA counselling and final admission. If you do not pass Class 12 by then, your admission will be cancelled.
After completing registration, here is the full timeline:
