Test of English Language Comprehension, Logic and Reasoning (ToELR)

It is conducted in the form of a Computer Based Test (CBT) consisting of 40 MCQs. There is a provision for negative marking in this examination. Each question carries 2 marks amounting to a total of 80 marks. Each incorrect answer attracts a penalty of 0.5 marks. The total duration of the test is 30 minutes. The marks acquired by the candidate in ToELR are then added to the NEET score (maximum 720 marks) to get a score out of 800. These marks are then divided by 4 to get the score of the written examination out of 200.

    Psychological Assessment Test (PAT)

PAT assesses the psychological and personality traits of the candidate in terms of their qualities and value system. It is essentially a set of questions strategically formed so as to get an insight into the candidate’s personality traits. Candidates are supposed to answer the questions honestly as any contradictions from the answers observed in the interview will hamper the chances of a successful interview. It is a qualifying exam only, and there is no negative marking as there are no right or wrong answers. So its marks are not considered for preparing the final merit list.

    Interview

In this round, candidates appear before an interview panel and are asked questions about their hobbies and interests, aspirations, extracurricular activities, and other relevant information. The interview panel consists of 5-6 members and is headed by the Dean of the institution. The interview accounts for a total of 50 marks. Some questions asked in the interview are why do you want to join AFMC or what motivates you to become a doctor etc.

    Medical Examination

The next day, candidates undergo a medical examination at AFMC, as per the rules and standards laid down by the armed forces. Any candidate found unfit in the medical examination by the medical board has the option for an appeal medical board constituted by the Commandant, AFMC. The candidate wishing to appeal should apply to the Commandant, AFMC Pune, within 24 hours of the initial medical board (excluding Sundays and holidays). The decisions of the appeal medical board are final. Any requests for a medical board being held in a civil or private hospital are not entertained.

Only the candidates found fit in the medical examination are eligible for admission in AFMC. After the screening process, the final merit list is prepared based on the final score (written examination + Interview) of the candidates. The final score is out of 250 marks, in which 200 marks are accounted for the written examination and 50 marks for the interview. Two merit lists are prepared, one for boys and one for girls. Admissions are offered to only the shortlisted candidates in accordance with their final position in the merit list.
