Students who wish to do M.Tech in IIT can receive GATE admission, while admission to administrative programs is CAT. All of these entrance exams are national tests with a large number of applicants. Adoption in humanities, social sciences, and other IITs programs is done through institutional entry tests, conducted by institutions respectively. Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM)
Joint M.Sc. (JAM) is an annual admission test for admission to the Master of Science (M.Sc.) and other graduate science programs at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institute of Science (IISc, Bangalore), Indian Scientific Educational Institutions Research (IISERs), National Institute for Scientific and Scientific Education (NISER, Bhubaneswar), National Institute of Technology (NITs) and other institutions.
Students can gain admission to M.Sc, Joint M.Sc-Ph.D, M.Sc-Ph.D Dual Degree programs at IIT. These postgraduate programs at IITs offer high-quality education in their various fields, compared to the best in the world. The curriculum for these programs is designed to provide students with opportunities to develop academic talent that leads to a challenging and rewarding professional life.
JAM is offered in 7 total subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geology, Biological Science, and Biotechnology. The test was conducted online for three hours with 60 MCQ questions.
Who Is Eligible for the IIT JAM Exam?
- Students must have a Bachelor’s degree from any recognized university.
- Both Indian and foreign candidates are eligible.
- There is no age limit for IIT-JAM testing.
- Students who register for their final year examinations are also eligible.
- At the time of admission, all candidates will be required to submit a certificate of fitness from a registered physician in the prescribed form.
- At the time of admission, those who are admitted may need to be tested for fitness by a medical board set up by the Admitting Institute. In the event that a baptism candidate is found to be unfit to pursue his chosen course, his admission will be cancelled.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)

Who Is Qualified for the GATE Examination?
- There is no age limit for GATE testing.

- Students who register for their final year examinations are also eligible but must submit a certificate (with a signature) from the Principal of the University or College.
- Diploma students do not qualify for the GATE examination.
- Students who pass the competency test must submit their own certificate or qualification certificate or interim certificate.
Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED)
IITs are famous not only for their engineering studies but also for the variety of design courses they offer. The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) is held annually for admission to B.Des. courses offered at premium institutions.
Who Qualifies for the UCEED Exam?
- Both Indian and foreign candidates can appear on the UCEED Exam.
- In ordinary and OBC stages, baptismal candidates must be born on or after October 1, 1997.
- In the SC and ST categories, candidates must be born on or after October 1, 1992.
- Students who pass/come from their XII class or similar exams are eligible for the UCEED Examination.
- Candidates may offer the UCEED Exam more than twice and in successive years.
Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED)
Students who wish to gain admission in IIT without JEE for design degree courses can apply for the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED). Students who cancel this test will be able to secure their seats at M.Des. courses offered by IITs. To appear before the exam, a candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering/construction/design/interior design.
Who Is Eligible for the CEED Examination?
- The applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design / Interior Design or similar.
- The applicant must have a Diploma in Design.
- BFA (4-year professional program, after 10 or + 2).
- GD Art (5-year plan after 10 days) with one-year work experience after eligibility.
- Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications (2 year program after 10 + 2 + 3).
- Students should note that, if one of them has a three-year Bachelor’s degree, he or she will not be considered eligible for the CEED Entrance PhD and M. Dec.
Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Exam (HSEE)

The Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSEE) was offered for admission to a five-year Integrated Masters’ course at IIT. Students may want to be accepted into courses such as Development Studies, Economics, English and Environmental Studies, among others.
Who Qualifies for the HSEE Test?
- Students under the age of 25 are eligible to take the IIT HSEE exam.
- There is a 5-year break for SC / ST / PWD.
- Students who have passed grade 12 are eligible for the IIT HSEE examination.
- Learners must obtain a total of 60% marks total on their competency tests.
- In the SC / ST / PwD categories, 55% of marks are low on their eligibility test.
- Students who pass their final year of eligibility tests will also qualify for the IIT HSEE.
- Every qualified person will be required to submit a Certificate of Physical Fitness from a registered medical practitioner in the prescribed form and a letter of acceptance.
Common Admission Test (CAT)
CAT is a computer-based test of acceptance in the degree management system. The test consists of three categories of Speech and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Critical Thinking (DILR) and Equal Ability (QA). In total it is a three-hour online test divided into one hour each section. The Indian Institutes of Management (IMIMs) started this trial and used the test to select students for their business management programs (MBA or PGDM). Tests are performed annually by one of the IIMs based on the flexibility policy. Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) use CAT scores to select students for their management programs. Pre-admission to management systems in IITs was a Joint Management Entrance (JMET) entry test that was discontinued in 2012.
Who Qualifies for the CAT Examination?
- Students must have a Bachelor’s degree with a 50% mark in the standard and OBC categories and a 45% mark for SC, ST & PwD.
- Students from their final year of bachelor’s degree / similar qualification may apply for the CAT examination.
