JEE Advanced 2023 Exam: Your Class 12 Performance will now Matter

JEE Advanced 2023 Exam: Do you want to be an IITian? Are you preparing for JEE 2023? Then, this is the news for you. The JEE conducting board, NTA, has decided to do away with the relaxation on the class 12 marks. As per the reports, the IITs will reinstate the pre-pandemic Class 12 performance criterion for admissions to the BTech courses.

Earlier, before the pandemic, Those seeking admission to an IIT in the general category were required to score at least 75 per cent in Class 12 or rank in the top 20 percentile of their board examinations.

Campaigners from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) had to either achieve at least 65 per cent or meet the 20 percentile demand. A candidate’s emotional rank in the JEE (Advanced) did not guarantee admission without meeting the board marks criterion.

Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world in 2020, it has significantly impacted academic life. It disrupted the board examinations for Class 12, and the IITs decided to relax the admission rules. As a result, they suspended the performance criteria for the Class 12 board examinations. Furthermore, they agreed that only passing marks would be necessary for subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, language, and other subjects apart from these four. A similar pattern continued until 2022 for JEE( Advanced).

Now that things are returning to normalcy, all IITs across India have decided to revoke those relaxations. They will be bringing back the norms that were there before the pandemic. All the IIT aspirants should focus on their class 12 board exam performance while preparing for JEE Advanced 2023.

For JEE Main 2023, candidates must have passed or be currently pursuing class 12 board examinations with physics, mathematics, chemistry, and biology as mandatory subjects. Approximately 2.5 lakh students qualify for JEE Advanced every year based on their performance in JEE Main.
There is no age limit for appearing in the JEE Mains. Students who passed class 12 or equivalent exams in 2021, 2022, or 2023 are eligible to sit for the JEE Main 2022 exams, regardless of their age. Candidate(s) may, however, have to meet the institute(s) eligibility requirements (age criteria) to which they wish to apply.

There has yet to be an official announcement of the JEE Main 2023 exam date or the registration schedule. These details are expected to be announced this week, according to reports. A notification for JEE Mains 2023 will be available at nta.ac.in. Following this, candidates can register for the test at jeemain.nta.nic.in.
