IIIT fee structure 2026 is an important factor for students participating in JoSAA counselling. Unlike NITs, IIIT fees are not uniform across institutes. Central IIITs usually have lower fees, while many PPP-model IIITs charge higher tuition and hostel fees.
This article explains the complete IIIT BTech fee structure 2026, including tuition fees, hostel and mess charges, JoSAA seat acceptance fee, category-wise fee waivers, refund rules, and the estimated 4-year cost. Students can use this guide to compare IIITs before filling choices in JoSAA counselling.
| Parameter | Details |
| Total IIITs in India | 26 (5 Central + 21 PPP model) |
| Admission Route | JEE Main → JoSAA counselling (most IIITs) |
| Seat Acceptance Fee (GEN/OBC/EWS) | ₹35,000 (adjusted against tuition) |
| Seat Acceptance Fee (SC/ST/PwD) | ₹15,000 (adjusted against tuition) |
| Tuition Fee Range (4 years) | ₹4 lakh – ₹20 lakh depending on IIIT |
| SC/ST/PwD Tuition Fee Waiver | Full waiver at most JoSAA-participating IIITs |
| Hostel Fee (approx.) | ₹25,000 – ₹90,000 per year |
| Mess Fee (approx.) | ₹30,000 – ₹60,000 per year |
| Fee Payment Mode | Semester-wise via institute portal |
| JoSAA Refund (withdrawal before last round) | ₹32,000 / ₹12,000 (after ₹3,000 deduction) |
IIIT fee structure for BTech 2026 refers to the complete set of charges a student pays — semester by semester — to complete the 4-year B.Tech programme at an IIIT. The fee includes tuition, hostel, mess, examination fee, sports fee, and one-time charges like caution money and admission fee.
The fee structure at IIITs is not uniform across all 26 institutes. It depends on three factors: the type of IIIT (Central vs PPP), the student's category (General, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC/ST/PwD), and the family's annual income (relevant for scholarship eligibility).
The JoSAA Cutoff seat acceptance fee is the first payment a student makes — before even joining the institute. This is paid online on the JoSAA portal after a seat is allotted.
The table below lists all fee components at a typical IIIT and whether they are refundable.
| Fee Component | Description | Refundable at Programme End? |
| Tuition Fee | Paid each semester. Core academic instruction charge. Varies by IIIT type. | No |
| Hostel Fee | Charged per semester. Varies by room type (single/double occupancy). | No |
| Mess Advance | Prepaid food deposit. Adjusted at semester end. Depends on mess category. | No |
| Caution Money | One-time refundable deposit. Returned at programme completion. | Yes |
| Admission Fee | One-time payment at the time of first admission. | No |
| Examination Fee | Charged per semester. Covers evaluation and exam-related costs. | No |
| Medical Insurance | Annual charge. Covers basic health insurance for students. | No |
| Sports / Gymkhana Fee | Charged per semester. Covers sports facilities and gymkhana access. | No |
| Library / IT Fee | Charged per semester. Covers library access and IT infrastructure. | No |
| One-Time Hostel Deposit | Refundable hostel security deposit. Returned at end of programme. | Yes |
Important: The Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) paid during JoSAA is not a separate charge — it is adjusted against your first-semester fee when you report to the institute. Do not pay any additional amount above the SAF at the JoSAA stage.
Central IIITs are fully funded and managed by the Ministry of Education (formerly MHRD). These five institutes have the lowest fee structure among all IIITs because the government bears a larger share of operational costs. They also participate in JoSAA counselling for seat allotment.

| IIIT (Central) | 4-Year Tuition (approx.) | Hostel Fee/Year | Total 4-Year Cost (approx.) | Branches Offered |
| IIIT Allahabad | ~₹7.20 lakh | ~₹25,000/yr | ~₹9.65 lakh (4 yrs) | IT, ECE, B.Informatics |
| ABV-IIITM Gwalior | ~₹5.35 lakh | ~₹15,000–25,000/yr | ~₹6.5 lakh (4 yrs) | CSE, IT |
| IIITDM Jabalpur | ~₹6.80 lakh | ~₹20,000–30,000/yr | ~₹8.5 lakh (4 yrs) | CSE, ECE, ME |
| IIITDM Kancheepuram | ~₹6.50 lakh | ~₹20,000–25,000/yr | ~₹8.0 lakh (4 yrs) | CSE, ECE, ME |
| IIITDM Kurnool | ~₹6.20 lakh | ~₹20,000–24,000/yr | ~₹7.8 lakh (4 yrs) | CSE, ECE |
Important: Tuition fee figures for Central IIITs are approximate and may vary slightly based on revised fee circulars for 2026–27. SC/ST/PwD students pay zero tuition at all five Central IIITs.

PPP (Public-Private Partnership) IIITs are set up jointly by the Central Government (50%), the respective State Government (35%), and industry partners (15%). Because they are not fully government-funded, their tuition fees are higher than Central IIITs. All PPP IIITs listed below participate in JoSAA counselling and offer full SC/ST/PwD tuition fee waivers.
| IIIT (PPP) | 4-Year Tuition (approx.) | Hostel Fee/Year (approx.) | Total 4-Year Cost (approx.) | Branches |

IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Bangalore, and IIIT Delhi are autonomous institutes — they do not participate in JoSAA counselling for all seats. IIIT Hyderabad admits students through JEE Main, UGEE, Olympiad, and DASA modes. Fees shown are approximate and subject to annual revision.
IIIT fees vary significantly based on student category. The table below summarises what each category pays at JoSAA-participating IIITs and what the JoSAA seat acceptance fee (SAF) is.
| Student Category | Tuition Fee Applicable | JoSAA Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) |
| General / OBC-NCL (income > ₹5 lakh) | Full tuition fee applicable | ₹35,000 (adjusted on joining) |
| EWS (family income ≤ ₹8 lakh) | Full tuition — no automatic waiver at most IIITs | ₹35,000 |
| OBC-NCL (income ≤ ₹1 lakh) | Some IIITs offer partial remission — check individually | ₹35,000 |
| SC / ST / PwD | Full tuition fee waiver at all JoSAA-participating IIITs | ₹15,000 |
| Income < ₹1 lakh (any category) | Free Studentship at some Central IIITs | ₹15,000 or waived |
| Income ₹1–₹5 lakh (General) | Merit-cum-Means scholarship at select IIITs (₹36,000/yr) | ₹35,000 |
Important: EWS students do NOT automatically get a tuition fee waiver at IIITs — unlike SC/ST/PwD. EWS certificate only confirms eligibility for the EWS quota seats in JoSAA. For income-based remission, check the individual IIIT's scholarship/remission policy separately.

SC, ST, and PwD category students are fully exempt from paying tuition fees at all JoSAA-participating IIITs. This waiver covers the tuition component only. These students still pay:
The estimated total 4-year out-of-pocket cost for SC/ST students (excluding tuition) is approximately ₹1.5 lakh to ₹3.5 lakh depending on the IIIT and hostel type.
Fee waiver at IIITs is not automatic — it requires submission of valid documents at two stages: during JoSAA counselling, and at the start of each academic year at the institute.
| Document | Issuing Authority | Who Needs It |
| SC/ST Certificate | Issued by competent authority (SDM / Tehsildar) | All reserved SC/ST candidates |
| PwD Certificate | From Govt. medical authority (minimum 40% disability) | PwD candidates |
| EWS Certificate | Income and asset certificate from SDM/Tehsildar. Must be current year. | EWS candidates |
| Income Certificate | From SDM/Tehsildar. Required for merit-cum-means scholarship at most IIITs. | Low-income General/OBC |
| Caste Certificate | For OBC-NCL — must be Non-Creamy Layer certificate (current year) | OBC-NCL candidates |
| Bank Account Details | For direct benefit transfer of any scholarship or stipend | All waiver applicants |
Key Point: All certificates must be current-year documents issued by a competent authority. Expired or unofficial certificates will not be accepted for fee waiver processing. OBC-NCL Non-Creamy Layer certificate must be of the current financial year.
IIIT Hyderabad is an autonomous deemed university and India's most reputed IIIT. It does not participate in JoSAA for all its seats — admission is through JEE Main (limited seats), UGEE, Olympiad, SPEC, and DASA modes. The fee structure is significantly higher than all other IIITs.
| Fee Component | Amount |
| Annual Tuition Fee (BTech CSE) | ₹4,00,000 – ₹5,00,000 per year |
| Total Tuition for 4 Years | ~₹18,00,000 – ₹20,00,000 |
| Hostel Fee | ~₹3,000/month (~₹36,000/year) |
| Mess Charges | ~₹4,500/month (~₹54,000/year) |
| Total 4-Year Cost (including hostel + mess) | ~₹24,00,000 – ₹28,00,000 (with annual hikes) |
| Annual Fee Hike | Approximately 10% per year |
| Average Placement Package (2024 batch) | ₹31.49 LPA |
| Highest Placement Package (2024 batch) | ₹65 LPA |
| JEE Main Rank Required (General category) | Below ~1,200 AIR |
ROI Note: At ₹20 lakh total fees and an average package of ₹31.49 LPA, the tuition cost is recovered within 2–3 months of employment at average salary. IIIT-H is widely considered to have a strong fee-to-placement ROI for CSE and related branches.
Students often compare IIIT fees with NITs and GFTIs before finalising JoSAA choices. The table below gives a direct fee comparison to help with decision-making.
| Parameter | NITs (via JoSAA) | Central IIITs (via JoSAA) | PPP IIITs (via JoSAA) |
| Tuition Fee (4 years) | ₹2.0–2.5 lakh (NITs, General) | ₹4.0–13.4 lakh (Central IIITs) | ₹7.2–20 lakh (PPP IIITs) |
| Hostel + Mess (4 years) | ₹2.0–3.5 lakh | ₹1.5–3.0 lakh | ₹2.0–4.5 lakh |
| Total 4-Year Cost (approx.) | ₹4–6 lakh | ₹6–16 lakh | ₹9–24 lakh |
| SC/ST Tuition Waiver | Yes — full waiver | Yes — full waiver at most | Yes — full waiver |
| Admission Route | JoSAA (JEE Main) | JoSAA (JEE Main) | JoSAA + some institute-specific |
| CSE Avg. Placement (top institutes) | ₹12–18 LPA | ₹20–33 LPA | ₹25–65 LPA (IIIT-H) |
| NIRF Ranking (top in category) | NIT Trichy: ~9 | IIIT-A: ~53 | IIIT-H: ~38 (Engineering) |
NITs have the lowest fees among all three institute types. Central IIITs cost more but offer stronger specialisation in IT. PPP IIITs vary widely — some cost nearly as much as top private colleges. If fee is a constraint, prioritise Central IIITs or NITs over PPP IIITs.

Understanding when and how to pay is critical during JoSAA counselling. Missing any payment deadline results in cancellation of the allotted seat. The table below maps the complete fee payment timeline from JoSAA allotment to programme completion.
| Stage | What to Pay | How to Pay |
| JoSAA Round 1–6 allotment | Pay Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF): ₹35,000 (GEN) / ₹15,000 (SC/ST) | Online — JoSAA portal |
| Seat Freezing / Reporting | SAF adjusted against first semester fee on institute reporting | – |
| 1st Semester (July–August) | Pay remaining first semester institute fee (tuition + hostel + mess advance) | Institute ERP / portal |
| 2nd Semester (December–January) | Pay full semester fee — hostel, mess, tuition | Institute ERP / portal |
| Every subsequent semester | Repeat semester fee payment. Rates revised annually (typically 5–10% hike) | Institute ERP / portal |
| End of programme | Refund of caution money and one-time hostel deposit via no-dues process | Institute accounts dept. |
Important: After seat allotment in any JoSAA round, you must pay the Seat Acceptance Fee within the deadline — even if you want to upgrade to a better option. Select the 'Float' option (not 'Freeze') to remain eligible for better seats in subsequent rounds while keeping your current seat secure.
The refund policy for IIITs depends on when you withdraw from the seat and whether you have reported to the institute. JoSAA follows a uniform refund policy for the seat acceptance stage; post-reporting refund is governed by UGC guidelines.
| Withdrawal Stage | Refund Amount / Policy |
| Before Round 6 / before last round | Full refund of SAF minus ₹3,000 (GEN: ₹32,000 refunded; SC/ST: ₹12,000 refunded) |
| After all JoSAA rounds — before seat withdrawal deadline | Refund as per JoSAA official refund schedule (varies by year) |
| After joining institute — within UGC cut-off date | Fees refunded as per UGC refund policy. Caution money returned. |
| After UGC cut-off date | No refund of semester fees. Only caution money / deposit returned. |
| JoSAA processing fee | ₹3,000 deducted in all withdrawal cases. Non-refundable. |
UGC Refund Policy: As per UGC guidelines, if a student cancels admission before the last date for admission notified by the university, the institute must refund the full fees minus a processing charge. After this date, only the caution deposit and security money are refundable.
For students and parents with a limited fee budget, the table below ranks the cheapest IIITs by total 4-year cost (tuition + hostel). All institutes listed below are JoSAA-participating.

| IIITDM Kurnool | ~₹7.8 lakh | ~₹1.95 lakh/yr | Central IIIT — newer, low tuition |
| IIIT Manipur | ~₹9.5 lakh | ~₹2.38 lakh/yr | PPP — lower cost among PPP IIITs |
| IIIT Kota | ~₹9.5 lakh | ~₹2.38 lakh/yr | PPP — lower-end PPP fee range |
| IIIT Bhubaneswar | ~₹9.96 lakh | ~₹2.49 lakh/yr | PPP — 50% seats via JoSAA |

| Total (Central IIIT estimate) | – | ₹9–12 lakh |
| Total (PPP IIIT estimate) | – | ₹12–22 lakh |
| Total (IIIT Hyderabad estimate) | – | ₹26–30 lakh |
Education Loan: Students needing financial assistance can apply for education loans under the Government's Vidya Lakshmi portal (vidyalakshmi.co.in). Interest paid on education loans is deductible under Section 80E of the Income Tax Act for up to 8 years after graduation.
The decision between a Central IIIT and a PPP IIIT should not be based on fees alone. Consider the following before finalising:

IIIT BTech fee structure 2026 varies across institutes. The total tuition fee in Central IIITs generally ranges between ₹4 lakh and ₹7.5 lakh for four years. In PPP-model IIITs, the tuition fee usually ranges between ₹7 lakh and ₹14 lakh. The overall cost increases further after adding hostel and mess charges.
Yes, SC, ST, and PwD students get full tuition fee waiver at most JoSAA-participating IIITs. However, hostel fees, mess charges, examination fees, and other institute charges still need to be paid. Candidates must submit valid category certificates during admission and institute reporting.
The JoSAA seat acceptance fee for General, OBC-NCL, and EWS candidates is ₹35,000. For SC, ST, and PwD candidates, the fee is ₹15,000. The amount paid during counselling is adjusted against the first-semester institute fee after admission.
ABV-Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management Gwalior has one of the lowest overall fee structures among major IIITs. Among PPP-model IIITs, institutes such as Indian Institute of Information Technology Manipur and Indian Institute of Information Technology Kota generally have lower total costs compared to other PPP IIITs.
NITs generally have lower tuition fees compared to most IIITs. The tuition fee in NITs for General category students is around ₹62,500 per semester. In comparison, several PPP-model IIITs have significantly higher tuition fees. However, some top IIITs offer strong placement opportunities in CSE and IT-related branches.
The total 4-year cost in IIITs depends on the institute, hostel type, and branch. In Central IIITs, the overall cost generally ranges between ₹6.5 lakh and ₹10 lakh. In many PPP-model IIITs, the total cost can range between ₹11 lakh and ₹17 lakh including hostel and mess charges.
PPP-model IIITs are institutes established under the Public-Private Partnership model involving the Central Government, State Government, and industry partners. Since these institutes are not fully government-funded, their tuition fees are usually higher than Central IIITs.
Income-based fee remission policies vary across PPP-model IIITs. Some institutes offer merit-cum-means scholarships or fee concessions for students from low-income families. Candidates should check the official website of the allotted IIIT for institute-specific scholarship and remission rules.
Candidates applying for fee waiver need valid category and income-related documents. These may include SC/ST certificate, PwD certificate, income certificate, EWS certificate, and OBC-NCL certificate issued by a competent authority. Most institutes require updated documents during every academic year.
Yes, refund is available if the candidate withdraws before the final JoSAA round. A processing fee is deducted from the paid amount as per JoSAA rules. After institute reporting, refund is governed by institute and UGC guidelines.
Yes, International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad has one of the highest fee structures among IIITs. The total 4-year cost including tuition, hostel, and mess charges can exceed ₹24 lakh. However, the institute is also known for strong placement packages in CSE and related branches.
After seat allotment, candidates first pay the JoSAA Seat Acceptance Fee on the counselling portal. The remaining first-semester fee, including tuition, hostel, and mess charges, is paid during institute reporting. Subsequent semester fees are usually paid through the institute ERP portal.
