Kangaroos are marsupials that live in Australia. They are the largest marsupials in the world. There are four different types of kangaroos: the red kangaroo, the eastern gray kangaroo, the western gray kangaroo, and the wallaroo. Kangaroos are herbivores and eat mainly grasses and other plants. They have a very unusual way of moving; they hop on their hind legs. Kangaroos can travel long distances by hopping and can reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. They are very good at jumping; they can jump up to 33 feet in one leap. Kangaroos are monogamous and mate for life. The female kangaroo has a pouch on her belly where her joey (baby kangaroo) lives for the first few months of its life. Kangaroos are very important to the Australian economy; they are the country’s national symbol and are a major tourist attraction.

Kangaroos are marsupials that live in Australia and New Guinea. The word kangaroo comes from the Guugu Yimithirr word gangurru, meaning “a large animal that hops”.[1] There are four species of kangaroos: the red kangaroo, the eastern gray kangaroo, the western gray kangaroo, and the antilopine kangaroo. Kangaroos are the only large animals that hop. They can travel at speeds up to 40 km/h (25 mph) and can jump over 8 m (26 ft) in a single leap.[2] Kangaroos eat mostly grass, but they also eat leaves, flowers, and small branches.
